Christchurch CBD gets extra car parks as petrol prices increase

The Press reported today that car park prices in the CBD are tumbling as many sites of demolished buildings are turned into car parks instead of being rebuilt.

It’s a shame that the CBD is clearly going to be filled with ‘holes’ for some time to come, instead of being redeveloped. It’s also a shame that a by-product is that we may start to see the CBD fill up with more cars! However, with petrol now $2 a litre, it remains to be seen how much of an impact this will have on the number of commuters driving into the CBD.
