Ferrymead bridge upgrade to begin in August

The Christchurch City Council has announced construction is due to begin in August on the widening and strengthening of the Ferrymead bridge. The project will take two years to complete with August 2012 earmarked.

I’m quite surprised to see a claimed figure of 30 000 vehicles per day using this bridge. Perhaps a serious look at improving public transport along this route wouldn’t go amiss. It could be a perfect test case for a number of initiatives.
