More tram extension activity

Work has begun on the next section of the tram extension, this time along High St between Cashel & Lichfield St’s. In addition to the laying of tram tracks the section of High St will also receive a general upgrade with widened footpaths and new street furniture.

“This section of High Street connects City Mall and the Central City’s north with the retail stretch of High Street and the busy hospitality areas of Poplar Street and SOL Square in the Central City South. The upgrade will create a more attractive streetscape and make it easier and more pleasant for people to use the area.” – Council Project Management Unit Manager Christian Anderson

With the first stage of the tram extension due to open next year in time for the rugby world cup the amount of work being carried out is starting to stack up, with work continuing on the section along Oxford Tce as this section gets underway. Once finished, I am sure that High St and the tram will form the spine of a vibrant and exciting inner-city precinct.
